Fred Fung received his B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (With Distinction - Dean's Honours List) from the University of Waterloo in 2002. He received his M.A.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2004, specializing in multi-user communications. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student in the Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Toronto, under the supervision of Prof. H.-K. Lo. His current research interest is quantum information.

He is currently completing the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto.
His research interests include quantum key distribution, quantum information theory, and wireless communications.

Fred has received numerous scholarships and awards during his undergraduate and graduate years. In particular, upon graduation of his B.A.Sc. degree, he was awarded the Sandford Fleming Foundation Medal for Co-operative Proficiency, for being the top graduating student in Electrical Engineering with the best overall performance in both the work-term experience and the academic program of Co-operative Engineering education.

Fred has a keen interest in playing piano and playing table tennis. He enjoys playing both classical and contemporary music. For classical music, he likes piano pieces composed by Chopin, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. For contemporary music, he mostly plays piano arrangements of Chinese/Japanese/Korean songs. He is an active player in table tennis, but he does not claim to be very good at the sport. While many amateur Chinese players use the penholder grip, he uses the shakehand grip.
