Patient Pocket Care
The goal of this project is to
develop a software application that provides real-time, anywhere access to
electronic medical records (EMR). This application will be used by health care
professionals (users) on their mobile handheld devices to enhance quality of
patient care. Main features include the following:
- Support for text, audio and
video EMR.
- Automatic EMR Synchronization
- When a user updates an EMR on his/her handheld device, the software tool
should automatically synchronize the changes on all the other handheld devices
in the hospital containing that EMR.
- EMR Search & Download – A user
can query for an EMR and download that specific EMR from multiple sources
simultaneously to enable faster downloads.
- Effective Bandwidth Usage – If
a user is located in a low bandwidth area, his/her handheld device will be
sent a text message alerting that critical updates are available on a certain
EMR. Then that user can move into an area with better bandwidth coverage to
synchronize his/her handheld device with the updated EMR.
- User Groups – In order to
prevent network flooding, user groups will be created. Level 1 users (Power
users) will be updated with all the changes whereas Level 4 users (Common
users) will be updated only with the required changes. The privileges and data
distribution to other levels (such as Level 2 and
Level 3) will be set accordingly.
- Secure Access - Fingerprint
identification will be used to provide secure access to the EMR
This project is sponsored by
California based palmOne Inc. The software application will be developed using
the C++ programming language for palmOne handheld devices.
