Deepa Kundur is Professor and Chair of The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cybersecurity of Intelligent Critical Infrastructure. A native of Toronto, Canada, she received the B.A.Sc., M.A.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1993, 1995, and 1999, respectively.
Professor Kundur’s research interests lie at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and complex dynamical systems and networks, with applications to critical infrastructure and digital health. Her research encompasses cyber-physical modeling and vulnerability analysis, resilient control and optimization, cyber-physical attack detection, cybersecurity of industrial systems, and AI for mental health informatics. She has authored over 275 journal and conference publications and holds several patents in cyber-physical security. Her work has received numerous best paper and presentation awards across cybersecurity, networking, and smart grid research.
In addition to her research, Professor Kundur has served in executive leadership roles for numerous IEEE and ACM conferences, including ICASSP, ICC, GLOBECOM, SmartGridComm, and GlobalSIP, and has served on the editorial boards of several IEEE journals. She has also participated on national research funding panels and advisory committees, including as Chair of the NSERC Discovery Grant Evaluation Group in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Canadian ECE Department Heads Association and as Co-Chair of the University of Toronto Information Security Council, which provides university-wide leadership on information security governance, digital risk management, and cybersecurity strategy.
Professor Kundur is the recipient of the Distinguished Woman Scholar Award from the University of Victoria and holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cybersecurity of Intelligent Critical Infrastructure. She is a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, the IEEE, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and a Senior Fellow of Massey College.
